Maintaining focus

Last night was awesome, but it's time to move on. There is still a division race that's undecided, and the best way for it to stay that way is for the Pirates to win as many of these last five games as possible. A good place to start along those lines would be hitting the ball more consistently. Chris Rusin starts for the Cubs tonight; his peripherals are pretty bad, the Pirates beat him 11 days ago, and since then the Brewers absolutely bombed him for six runs in four innings. He's a lefty, which means that Andrew McCutchen, Jordy Mercer, and Gaby Sanchez are all players to watch tonight. Starling Marte's big home run last night earned him a start, in what I assume is one of his final chances to prove that he deserves to be on the playoff roster.

Gerrit Cole starts for the Pirates. He's been unbelievable lately. I say the Pirates get the kids some runs and see if this division deficit can't be cut in half. First pitch is at 8:05.

About Pat Lackey

In 2005, I started a WHYGAVS instead of working on organic chemistry homework. Many years later, I've written about baseball and the Pirates for a number of sites all across the internet, but WHYGAVS is still my home. I still haven't finished that O-Chem homework, though.
