Francisco Liriano goes for 82

There's not much to say about this game: Francisco Liriano is on the mound. The Pirates are one win away from clinching a winning season. A win tonight ensures that the Pirates will go to St. Louis this weekend with at least a 1 1/2 game lead on the Cardinals (the Cardinals are playing four agains the Reds this week, which is where they could pick up the extra half game) before the weekend series at Busch. The time for slowing down is behind us; if the Pirates are going to win this division, they're going to do it by winning games against teams like the Brewers when pitchers like Francisco Liriano are on the mound.

Wily Peralta starts for the Brewers. He's a groundball pitcher who's probably slightly better than his 4.51 ERA, but only slightly. The first pitch tonight is at 8:10.

About Pat Lackey

In 2005, I started a WHYGAVS instead of working on organic chemistry homework. Many years later, I've written about baseball and the Pirates for a number of sites all across the internet, but WHYGAVS is still my home. I still haven't finished that O-Chem homework, though.
