AJ Burnett takes on Andrew Cashner and the Padres

As it turns out, it's hard to find original angles for game previews when every game is the biggest game of the year. The Pirates are playing really well right now. They need to keep playing really well. AJ Burnett takes the mound for the Pirates. His last start was OK, though he ran out of gas in the seventh inning. On the whole, though, he's pitched quite well of late, save his start at Busch Stadium. He dominated the Padres at Petco on August 20th, striking out seven and only allowed one run on four hits over seven innings.

Andrew Cashner also started against in that series. He pitched relatively well (seven innings, five hits, three runs, two walks, three strikeouts), but was blown out of the water by Francisco Liriano's masterful 13-strikeout performance. Let's hope that the Pirates have it in them to beat him again. First pitch is at 7:05.

About Pat Lackey

In 2005, I started a WHYGAVS instead of working on organic chemistry homework. Many years later, I've written about baseball and the Pirates for a number of sites all across the internet, but WHYGAVS is still my home. I still haven't finished that O-Chem homework, though.
