At the 75 game mark, the Pirates are a game behind the Reds and a half-game ahead of the Cardinals in the NL Central heading into Busch Stadium Mark 3 for a weekend series. This is about as big as baseball gets for a team that hasn't had a winning season since 1992.
Unfortunatey for the Buccos, AJ Burnett and James McDonald both pitched to close out the Phillies series, which means they won't be pitching in St. Louis this weekend. Which means that Kevin Correia and Adam Wainwright is the pitching matchup tonight. There's a pretty high potential for disaster there in the Correia v. Cardinals matchup, but all we can do is sit back and hope for the best. I'm back in Western PA for a wedding this weekend, so there's a chance I might be able to watch this game over something other than an internet connection.
First pitch is at 8:15.
Two out of three, and they had a good chance to take that third.
This July is a serious opportunity for the Bucs. The only opponent with a winning record right now is San Francisco, which we get at home, and we have to go back to Miller for three against the Brewers. Thirteen of the games in July are versus the Astros and the Cubs.
Good teams are supposed to beat the bad teams, the Bucs got a gift from the schedule makers after the murderer's row to start the season.
102F + 90% humidity, and the pirates are wearing their black alternates. I guess sweat loosens the joints...
