AJ Burnett since the All-Star break:
5 games, 39 2/3 innings, 30 strikeouts, 7 walks, 25 hits, 9 runs
Rate stats:
6.8 K/9, 1.6 BB/9, 4.3 K/BB, 2.04 ERA, 0.83 WHIP, .181/.226/.319 against
The Pirates are 4-1 in Burnett's five starts, including wins his his last four. The Pirates are 13-9 since the All-Star break. You can do the math.
I read that the Pirates are only a game or two over .500 in games not started by Burnett. Should we be worried about that?
Only if you think the Pirates true talent level is significantly above .500, which it isn't.
Furthermore, if one were to really do the math that Pat suggests, it would result in an inability to reject the null hypothesis that there is no significant difference between Burnett's starts and other games.
You forgot to mention his YFFAM/9* stat line: ad infinitum
(*--Yankee Fans Frothing At the Mouth/9 innings of A.J. pitching.)
@wkkortas I work with Yankee fans. They're not frothing at the mouth. They put AJ in the Randy Johnson category of not being mentally strong enough to pitch in the bright lights and crazy media of NY. I hate to say it, but they're probably right. It doesn't matter though; as long as he can do it in the Burgh, I don't care!
You must not know the same Yankee fans I do; mention A.J. Burnett to them, and you have to wrap them in duct tape to keep them from spontaneously combusting.
