All season I have taken an ugly win as a win, but last night simply blew. Alvarez got picked off second BY THE FREAKING CATCHER. "The Hammer" pitched the 9th with a four run lead and ened the inning with the tying run at the plate. Clint Hurdle needs to throw a bunch of bats in the showers and start ranting about lollygagging.
@LastingsMilledgeville I was going to write thee same thing. Don't forget 10 strikeouts, including 3 against batting practice pitcher Livan Hernandez. And McCutchen ending the rally inning by getting caught stealing. Are the Bucs hurting? EVERYONE is hurting, including the Nationals, the Reds, the Yankees, the Dodgers... time to separate men from boys.
This is somewhat unrelated to this game but I was wondering if anyone had heard about McCutchen being hurt instead of just slumping? On August 1 he went 2-3 against the cubs and was generally on fire. August 3rd, i think, he got plunked by Chapman with a 100 mph fastball and has slumped ever since. He walked it off like it didn't hurt but we all know better. I've heard it takes a long time for that kind of pain to go away.
