AJ the stopper

Written by Pat Lackey on .

This will be the third straight time that AJ Burnett starts a game with the Pirates on a two-game losing streak. Because the Pirates have elected to go with a six-man rotation, Burnett hasn't pitched since Sunday and won't pitch again until next Friday. I guess he better get his money's worth tonight.

Jason Marquis goes for the Padres. First pitch tonight is at 7:05.

AJ just can't win every time. Yes SD is bad, but he can't do it himself. Hopefully tomorrow's rubber game is a winner. And stop pitching to Headley!!!

People have to remember how long the season is.  Since the Pirates have done so bad for so long we take a few good months and go crazy in excitement.

Think about the NFL.  Every year a team starts out 6-0 or 7-0 or 8-0 and then that team does not make the playoffs.  It is how you do all year not just 4 of 6 months.  Right now turning the page to the month of August  has been a disaster.

The possibility exists that the Pirates may not even finish above 500.  Yes I said it.

The reasons are multi-fold, but the pirates should have made much better trades at the deadline for real winners not unproven talent.

Sad to say it, but my prediction is that St. Louis wins the division. Then the Reds.  Milwaukee may be too far back to be third, but if this continues it will be close.

Every team has losing streaks.  The thing is when do they come?  Sadly the Pirates losing streak is coming now and may last for awhile at the worst possible time.

Getting no hit by Marquis might be a bigger insult than J-Mac imploding last night. Brutal.

While everybody was dreaming of Upton, I was hoping we'd go after Headley. I figured he'd mash at PNC. Welp, we didn't trade for you, so stop it.
