Gotta get it together (watch it)

The Pirates are 11-14 entering a nine-game homestand against the Reds, Nationals, and Astros. They have been occasionally brilliant on the mound this year and recently compentent at the plate. If you were asking me to be honest, I’d tell you that I think that they haven’t played as well as their record indicates this year and that on some nights I feel like I’m watching a 100-loss team. But I’d also tell you that I think that on some nights it feels like there’s something lurking on the periphery for this team. Something good.

What I’d like to see is this team to put together a really solid homestand. A 6-3 homestand, a 7-2 homestand. I want to see Pedro mashing taters in front of Pirate fans, I want to see J-Mac and Morton turning in solid starts. I want to see ‘Cutch’s bat start to come around. I’m probably hoping for too much, but hey, it can’t hurt to dream, right?

Kevin Correia goes for the Bucs against Johnny Cueto, who pitches against the Pirates about as often as the Hated Kyle Lohse. First pitch is at 7:05.

About Pat Lackey

In 2005, I started a WHYGAVS instead of working on organic chemistry homework. Many years later, I've written about baseball and the Pirates for a number of sites all across the internet, but WHYGAVS is still my home. I still haven't finished that O-Chem homework, though.
