Burnett’s debut

AJ Burnett’s debut is coming a little earlier than anyone expected, but I’m still pretty excited to see what he can do in a Pirate uniform. His rehab starts were a little dicey, sure, but those are about as meaningful as spring training starts, in my eyes, and as long as he was hitting his velocity targets and his other pitches looked OK (which they did, by most accounts), then I’m not sure it’s much worth getting worried about.

What is worth getting worried about, of course, is the fact that the Pirates can’d score runs. The Cardinals send Jake Westbrook to the mound tonight and he’s got an excellent ERA to this point, though some iffy peripherals to go with it (he’s only struck out four in 14 innings). Still, keeping the Pirates off of the board hasn’t exactly been a challenge to this point in the season.

First pitch tonight is at 7:05.

About Pat Lackey

In 2005, I started a WHYGAVS instead of working on organic chemistry homework. Many years later, I've written about baseball and the Pirates for a number of sites all across the internet, but WHYGAVS is still my home. I still haven't finished that O-Chem homework, though.
