Game 25: Giants 5 Pirates 2

Here are a list of awful things that happened to the Pirates today:

  • Ryan Vogelsong dominated them.
  • The longer Ryan Vogelsong pitched, the better he looked.
  • Pretty much everyone made an error.
  • Brandon Wood and Pedro Alvarez and Andrew McCutchen offered Vogelsong as much resistance at the plate as cardboard cutouts.
  • Jeff Karstens made one of his better starts as a Pirate, but the defense abandoned him.

This is one of those games that’s particularly hard to build a wall around and move on from. Because the overwhelming feeling I had from listening/watching all afternoon was, “Wow, this team is really not very good.”

Just an all-around ugly series against the Giants, even if the Bucs managed a win in the middle game.

About Pat Lackey

In 2005, I started a WHYGAVS instead of working on organic chemistry homework. Many years later, I've written about baseball and the Pirates for a number of sites all across the internet, but WHYGAVS is still my home. I still haven't finished that O-Chem homework, though.
