Game 13: Pirates 6 Reds 1

2011 is the seventh season that WHYGAVS has existed. Since the beginning, I’ve spent a lot of time making the case that a lot of crappy players weren’t really as bad as people think. I’ve been wrong about most of them.

Charlie Morton’s rough 2010 was particularly hard to figure out, though, because even on his worst nights his talent was apparent. His first two starts of 2011 were promising, but his complete game win over the Reds tonight is what I’ve been waiting for. Two walks, five hits, one run, a ton of groundouts; this is what I’ve always hoped Charlie Morton was capable of. He’s had good starts, but this one tonight really feels like progress.

Build a wall around that five-game losing streak. The Pirates have won one in a row.

About Pat Lackey

In 2005, I started a WHYGAVS instead of working on organic chemistry homework. Many years later, I've written about baseball and the Pirates for a number of sites all across the internet, but WHYGAVS is still my home. I still haven't finished that O-Chem homework, though.
