Charlie Morton and the long layoff E-mail
Written by Pat Lackey

Charlie Morton makes his first start since July 8th tonight, and I wonder if the long layoff will help him recover from the July 3rd start that was broken up by a 45 minute rain delay. He ran out of gas towards the end of that start against the Marlins and looked very rough in his next start against the Astros, so maybe the All-Star break aided downtime will help him bounce back.

He'll face Barry Zito tonight, which means Brandon Moss gets the night off in favor of Delwyn Young, but beyond that the lineup is about the same as it normally is. Everyone will keep clear of Garrett Jones, in fear of someone pinching him and waking him up.

on "Down on the Farm", while on the phone with Lastings Milledge, Greg Brown called him "Nyjer Morgan" twice.

(BTW, i still think Lastings is an asshat, but i'm getting more and more excited about him being called up...)

start is delayed 10min due to rain and OMG GUYS RAINBOWS!!!!!11!!one11!

sounds like 3 rad defensive plays to set SF down in order in the 1st (Andy, Cutch, DY).

*sniff* We all miss NYJMO. I saw he was 3 for 5 yesterday. If only we had table setters for Mighty Garrett Jones.

As for Lastings, you can bet if he is an asshat, you won't read about it. DK never bothered mentioning the players playing Ping Pong instead of extra batting practice or checking texts during games under Tracy until after he was fired. I'm sure he'll sweep anything under the rug for his Pirate overlords.

I am excited by him too, though. Pat's right, he deserves a chance. And hey, him + Mighty Jones means less useless Brandon Moss and more Home Runs!!

Freddy and Jack are having a lovers spat. I hate this. It feels like I'm watching my parents fight.

edit: they're smiling at each other now. all is right in the world again.

Except DK and other reporters DID report those things. They just made it more a part of their coverage after Tracy was gone.

We knew the players didn't respect Tracy while he was still here. I'm sure if Milledge is a problem, we'll probably hear about it.

Also, I love Lastings Milledge. I'm taking a special trip to Indianapolis Tuesday just so I can see him play before his callup.

Somebody take the closer's job away from Matt Capps, please. Maybe give Hanrahan a go at it.

Also, I liked what I saw from Morton today. Pretty good for a long layoff. Except for the part where he walked Zito, that is.

they knock Zito out in the bottom of the 7th. hell of an at-bat by Andy for an RBI - Bucs up 2-0.

Zito was good tonight, too.
