Talk about it? Do I want to talk about it? Talk about what? Wasting TEN EXTRA BASE HITS? Wasting THREE HOME RUNS? SEVEN RUNS SCORED? An AMAZING play by Jack Wilson? Do I want to talk about Matt Stairs hitting Matt Capps' fifth pitch of the inning way over the right field fence and Capps still somehow being out there TWENTY-EIGHT PITCHES LATER TO BLOW THE GAME, despite only recording one out in that span?

I do not want to talk about it.

Yeah, but only six of those 28 pitches got absolutely crushed. That's a pretty good percentage, isn't it?

OK! OK! I won't talk about it.

(Has a manager ever been demoted to AAA?)

I thought tonight was a great night, Pirates winning, eating at the Shot Tower, drinking lots of beer, hitting on and getting rejected by hot girl at the Shot Tower....

Thanks a lot Capps...

I would love to see that headline "JR and Capps demoted to AAA! Gary Varsho promoted to manager, Frank Kremblas promoted to bench coach."

It isn't usual that Uncle Cholly out manages the opposing skipper. That was usually reserved to the likes of Yost and Hurdle.

Looks like Russell might be added to that list.

Incredibly sad ending to a well pitched several innings by Ohlendorf and good hitting by the Pirates. Some wasted opportunities early but the worst display of relief pitching I have ever seen combined with non-existent leadership from the bench-- manager was MIA!!!!

Nice catch by Jack, but what a horrid little at bat he had with LaRoche standing on third with one out.

What wheelbarrow did Sanchez trip over on the Howard base hit that kept the single going?

How much of a gas depot is this bullpen to make Russell allow Grabow to hit in the top of the 8th?

Joe Biden would have had more life on his fastball that Capps did tonight. Matt Frickin' Stairs?

Didn't they have Hamels on the ropes and essentially revert to their typical selves in the middle innings?

Danny Murtaugh once said, "If you keep it close, I'll lose it every time." Did Russell see that quote and miss the joke?

Why am I suddenly nostalgic for Joe Table?

And why even start the inning with Capps with a four-run lead? I didn't get to see that game (thank God), did they have anyone warming at all once Capps started getting hammered?

They started doing a rush-job warmup of Hanrahan (only after the Howard home run, iirc; maybe not even until after the double that seemed to come like 5 seconds after Howard cleared home), and then just left Capps out there to finish blowing it.

Ugh. What a terrible way to end a great game.

I was there, it was excruciating. The only out recorded in the inning was a ball hit to one of the deepest parts of the park, with McCutchen catching it at the 398 foot sign. A few feet to the right and it was gone too. All the bandwagon-jumping idiot Phils fans were going nuts, and I was trying to find a way to dig a hole under my seat.

The scoreboard gun said Capps was touching 94-95, but every ball was hit HARD. He couldn't find the plate for the most part.

I was there last night and it stunk...I can't image all the crap you got.

It will be interesting to hear what JR has to say about this one.

I don't blame you for not wanting to talk about this game, Pat. I have never been so frustrated after watching Capps blow this one. Capps should be released, because no one will want him now, and Russell should be fired for letting Capps stay in that game. Capps should have been pulled before Howard hit the homer that tied it. Anyone would have done better than Capps. I am so ready to give up on this team. I won't, but I am ready.

While last night was disappointing I can't say it was surprising. Matt Capps is simply not that good. I don't care how many saves he has. I haven't gone back and checked but how many of his saves have come with a three run lead? He doesn't even get a blown save for last night being he came in with a four run lead. The most glaring mark on his stat sheet is the opponents batting average. I believe it is over .300 now. Terrible for a closer.

RE: Grabow. Get used to it. We traded away our only other left-handed reliever (since it's clear Veale isn't considered an option) and there is no one in AAA or AA to replace him. Seriously, the next best options are Gorzo and Moskos.

The sad thing is, I saw it coming. No lead is safe with Capps on the mound.

Yeah as much as I hate the "Burn it all/trade everybody" attitude of this crappy braintrust, they really do need to trade Capps ASAP.

He's managed to string together some nice save totals/streaks but it's smoke and mirrors. It's only a matter of when, not if, the wheels completely fall off. Get something for him while you can.

Besides, we'll only gonna win 65-70 games this season and next so it's not like we need a closer desperately.

Trade him to the Rays for Brignac.

I've said it before and I'll say it again-this is the kind of joke that gets you back when you leave Dave Littlefield in power too long and he trades for nothing but pitchers. Glad I'm in South Fla. and don't have to put up with Nutting's BS.

The headline I wanna see is "Nutting To Sell Bucs-Claims There Are Not Enough Bucks". Get his cheapcrap butt the hell out of Pittsburgh-losing games you should win is just too damn frustrating!!

And another thing ...
With the long All-Star break looming, was there any reason why, say, one of the STARTING pitchers might not have been an option to pitch somewhere in the seventh, eighth or ninth inning? Was Donnie Veal REALLY the only option other than Capps?
